Maruti Jacob-H.O.D English

Mr. Maruti Jacob, Senior HOD English

This is your take from the English department. That for the last thirteen years since dawn of the new millenium we set attainable academic targets that have seen us bolster our mean score from 6.23 in the year 2000 to 8.83 now. We are proud of this trend and indeed English has been the pivot in the realization of the higher KCSE school index the school is celebrated for. To this end, I want to salute my English teachers.

While this the caber, I wish to urge those in authority to harness the English staff by developing the teachers and makek them realize professional growth. The school administration is praise worthy before and lately for concerted effort to replenish the resource materials in the libraries. The onus is for the student's fraternity to utilize facilities optimum and attain excellent academic results.

Apart from the teaching and learning of English the school has not been without challenges for example while the number of students in school up to 5 streamed the English teachers are dismally 7. Teacher shortage has impedded somewhat rigorous testing and evaluation due to hefty teaching loads.

Also the inadequate number of books in the libraries hampers student's exposure to library facilities. There is Imperative need to increase the students contact hours with libraries through addressing the book shortage adequately.

However, the challenges not withstanding our goal as a department of English are to ensure the 2013 candidates raise index 9.5 or better. To achieve this the candidates are advised to go for the rarest of their abilities to score higher marks. Candidates will need to develop into more composition work and assess it at peer.

Awareness about the composition-marking scheme is obligating. The candidates ought to re-read the set of texts.

Best wishes and God bless Kibabii High School.

Maruti Jacob, English HOD
